Joseph LaBarbera is defiant. And ready to fight.

The Sussex County Republican Chairman was arrested and briefly jailed over the weekend on gun-related charges following an alleged "road rage" incident in Stillwater.

Asked Tuesday morning for his side of the story, LaBarbera said:

"I've done nothing wrong. I did everything correct legally and ethically. I'm falsely accused. This is a gun rights issue and I was within the law. The false accusations are indeed false. I'm ready to win this case and stand up for our civil rights."

As news spread of LaBarbera's arrest on Sunday, the three GOP state legislators representing the county and the Republican board of commissioners said in a joint statement that LaBarbera should step aside while the charges are pending.

His comments suggest that's not going to happen.
