Latino Veterans of New Jersey Launches Women Veterans Recognition Week with Patriotic 'Sheroes Brunch'

FAIRFIELD, NJ – Latino Veterans of New Jersey proudly launched Women Veterans Recognition Week with its inspiring and patriotic Sheroes Brunch, a celebration honoring the service, sacrifice, and achievements of women veterans from across New Jersey.

More than 25 women veterans were recognized alongside their families for their dedication to our nation and their continued contributions to their communities. The event brought together veterans, military families, elected officials, community leaders, and supporters in a powerful demonstration of gratitude and respect.

A highlight of the event was a special address by Vincent Solomeno, the State’s first Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs, who delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women veterans.

The keynote address was delivered by Colonel Marisol A. Chalas, a pioneering U.S. Army Reserve officer and the first Latina National Guard Black Hawk helicopter pilot. Colonel Chalas shared her remarkable journey of leadership, perseverance, and service, inspiring attendees to pursue excellence and break barriers.

More than 250 attendees filled the venue, including members of the Franklin High School U.S. Army JROTC and Girl Scout Troop 22000. Their participation highlighted the event’s commitment to educating and inspiring future generations about service, leadership, and patriotism.

"The Sheroes Brunch was a fitting tribute to the courage, resilience, and leadership demonstrated by women veterans," said representatives of Latino Veterans of New Jersey. "Their service has strengthened our nation, and their stories continue to inspire communities throughout New Jersey."

The event marked the beginning of Women Veterans Recognition Week and reaffirmed Latino Veterans of New Jersey’s commitment to honoring veterans, preserving their legacy of service, and advocating for those who have worn the uniform.
