New Jersey LCV Condemns Electric Utilities Response to PJM Voting History

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Allison McLeod, Interim Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding a new summary report from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) that finds all four New Jersey electric utilities submitted incomplete and deficient reports on their PJM voting history on decisions that potentially have significant implications to ratepayers, even following BPU staff guidance and revisions.

“In a time when New Jersey families are struggling to keep up with rising electricity bills, it is unacceptable that not one of the state’s four electric utilities was fully transparent about their votes on decisions that impact our energy, our reliability and our bottom line,” said Allison McLeod, interim Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “Ratepayers are being asked to shoulder the costs of a regional energy system over which they have little visibility or control. These decisions can have lasting consequences for household budgets, and customers deserve to know whose interests their utilities are representing. Transparency and accountability aren’t optional when families are struggling to afford the cost of keeping the lights on.

The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters is a non-partisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, hold public officials accountable, and support laws which protect our environment and improve the quality of people’s lives.
