“Working Families Deserve Affordability, Accountability and Accessibility”

Piscataway, NJ – The Piscataway Progressive Democratic Organization announced today that lifelong resident and active community servant Viola Stone will run to represent her Ward 3 neighbors in the June 2026 Democratic Primary. The PPDO, an all-volunteer, grassroots group founded in 2016, won two of the three Council seats in the 2024 primary, the first election without the corrupting influence of the “County Line.”

“We are thrilled to support Viola Stone in this race and look forward to her representing our dynamic community on behalf of Ward 3,” said Staci Berger, PPDO Chair and a Democratic Committee Member representing Ward 3, District 9. “She has a proven track record of standing up for and serving our community. She will be a champion of affordability, accountability and accessibility on our Council. She won’t rubber stamp proposals that harm our neighbors and she won’t ask for permission to do what’s right for our residents. She will be the kind of Democrat we need now, one whose only allegiance is to working families and seniors in our Township.”

Viola is a lifelong Piscataway resident, born and raised in the Township. She graduated from Piscataway High School, Class of 1986. She continued her education by attending Norfolk State University, receiving a B.S. in Business, with a minor in Management. Viola pursued a Master’s Degree in Business at Strayer University and is a proud homeowner in her Ward 3 neighborhood, where she is known by her neighbors for always lending a helping hand.

Her daughter also attended Piscataway Public Schools, and Viola served for two years as Treasurer for Quibbletown Middle School PTO. She mentored a group for young girls in the “Precious Jewels” program and volunteered at homeless shelters in our area. Property Management has always been her passion; she has over 25 years experience in the field.

A deeply committed community servant, Viola is an active associate member of the historic River Road Rescue Squad, one of our community’s longest serving volunteer emergency services institutions. She is a Trustee at the Rescue Squad, where she helps organize outreach events, public education and provides support to the Squad and the neighbors these active volunteers assist.

She’s a member of Piscataway’s Well Church, led by Pastor Marlon Wilson and executive pastor, Keena Wilson. She serves as an active member of the usher board and also supervises the Kitchen Committee. Additionally, she is a small business entrepreneur, and understands the needs of our neighbors launching their own dreams. She is the owner and CEO of VI’s Cafe also located in Piscataway, where they can feed your spirit and your soul.

In 2024, Viola ran in the Democratic Primary for an At-Large council seat and was one of the first candidates to ever run for office after the “County Line” was declared unconstitutional. She came in fourth in the six-way race for three seats, earning more votes than the two incumbent Council members. She is a member of the Piscataway Progressive Democratic Organization and is in her second term as an Executive Board member in her capacity as Recording Secretary.

Viola looks forward to working on behalf of her Ward 3 neighbors to assure environmental justice in our community, affordability for homeowners and renters, and accountability from our elected officials. She will be a relentless champion for Ward 3 and all of Piscataway’s residents, making it an awesome place to live and to raise a family.

Berger said additional candidates for the remaining Wards will be named in the coming weeks.
