Statement from the Gloucester Township Republicans Confronting the Outrageous and Irresponsible Hyperbole of Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. and the Camden County Board of Commissioners’

April 16, 2026

(Gloucester Twp. NJ) Gloucester Township Republicans are appalled—but not surprised—by Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. and the Camden County Board of Commissioners’ disgraceful screed against ICE. Comparing hardworking federal law enforcement agents to the Gestapo isn’t just hyperbolic; it’s a grotesque, historically illiterate smear that spits on the graves of millions who suffered under actual Nazi terror. These are the same federal officers risking their lives to remove criminal illegals from our streets, parks, and neighborhoods. Cappelli and his Democrat colleagues have chosen inflammatory rhetoric over facts, turning a legitimate debate about immigration enforcement into a clown show of partisan hysteria.

Has anyone done a welfare check on Lou lately? Between the unhinged “cult leader and traitor” insults aimed at the President and the Gestapo fever dream, we’re genuinely concerned. Is he auditioning to join The View's cast? Because this level of theatrical outrage belongs on daytime cable, not in an official county statement from elected leaders who are supposed to prioritize public safety over performative left-wing virtue signaling.

Let’s set the record straight with reality instead of rhetoric. Thanks to President Trump’s crackdown on criminal illegals, violent crime is plummeting across the country—and right here in Camden County. Nationally, 2025 saw one of the largest single-year drops in homicides on record, with murders down roughly 19-21% and overall violent crime falling sharply to levels not seen in decades. In Camden itself, homicides hit a 40-year low in 2025, the lowest since 1985, with the city recording its first homicide-free summer in 50 years and continuing sharp declines into 2026, including a homicide-free winter. Violent crime dropped another 12% in the first half of 2025 alone. These aren’t opinions; they’re the measurable results of enforcing the law and removing the worst offenders. But you won’t hear that from Cappelli’s echo chamber.

And where exactly was all this manufactured “outrage” when criminal illegals were raping and murdering young American women and girls? Where were the tear-soaked press conferences, the emergency resolutions, or the hysterical social posts back when innocent lives were being destroyed?

The silence from Cappelli, the Commissioners, and their Democrat allies was not just deafening—it was damning proof of their rank hypocrisy. No resolutions supporting those murdered by criminal illegals. No dramatic hand-wringing about “families torn apart.” Just crickets and convenient amnesia—until President Trump’s ICE finally started doing the job these same Democrats spent years obstructing and undermining.

Now, suddenly, they’re clutching their pearls and performing this overwrought political theater for the cameras. Their selective compassion is as transparent as it is sickening; tears only flow when it scores points against conservatives, never when it might require them to support enforcing the law or protecting American citizens. Spare us the fake indignation, Lou. Your timing exposes everything.

The victims deserved better then—and the law-abiding residents of Camden County deserve better now:

• Laken Riley, the 22-year-old Georgia nursing student brutally murdered while jogging on her college campus by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela.

• Rachel Morin, the Maryland mother of five, was raped and murdered while out for a walk by an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador.

• Jocelyn Nungaray, the 12-year-old Texas girl, was sexually assaulted and strangled by two illegal immigrants from Venezuela.

• Kayla Hamilton, the 20-year-old autistic woman from Maryland who was raped, bound, and strangled by an MS-13 gang member who entered illegally from El Salvador.

Gloucester Township Republicans stand with the men and women of ICE, with President Trump’s law-and-order agenda, and with every law-abiding resident of Camden County who wants safer streets, not sanctuary slogans. We urge our neighbors to reject this divisive nonsense at the ballot box and demand real leadership that puts American citizens first.
