Rest in Peace, Cokie Roberts

Cokie Roberts

Journalist Cokie Roberts has died.

This from NPR:

A bestselling author and Emmy Award winner, Roberts was one of NPR’s most recognizable voices and is considered one of a handful of pioneering female journalists — along with Nina Totenberg, Linda Wertheimer and Susan Stamberg — who helped shape the public broadcaster’s sound and culture at a time when few women held prominent roles in journalism.

There was also a New Jersey connection with the late Ms. Roberts (more than one, in fact).

Her sister, Barbara Boggs Sigmond, was the mayor of Princeton from 1983 to 1990. She served as a Mercer Freeholder, and finished fourth out of nine in the 1982 New Jersey Democratic Senate primary won by Frank Lautenberg.

Ms. Roberts’s husband, journalist Steve Roberts, hails from Bayonne and is a graduate of Bayonne High School.
