VINELAND - Zack Mullock said his mother had some advice when he told her he would introduce the governor this afternoon at a campaign event in the heart of battleground CD-2. "Whatever you do, son," she told him, "don't talk about men's asses."

The crowd here downtown on Landis Avenue laughed heartily, recognizing Mullock's dig at embattled President Donald J. Trump, who on the stump can't resist rhetorically dry humping the male anatomical rump.

"Come on, it's time to get over this," said the Cape May Mayor, the Democratic nominee for Congress. "When we get in, we're going to end the war in Iran and to end the tariffs. Those are the easy votes."

The hard votes are going to be the long haul ones to empower Labor, he added.

Trying to pick off Trump ally U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-2) tomorrow, Mullock a moment later introduced Governor Mikie Sherrill, who made her way up the drive outside Democratic headquarters to cheers.

"Looking for a hot landing," said the retired Navy helicopter pilot, in reference to the Mullock Campaign.

She elaborated on the metaphor.

"When I'm in some parts of New Jersey, I've got to tell them I'm not Rebecca Bennett. I'm the other helicopter pilot. When I was running in my first race I was running with a Marine jet pilot who said, 'Just stay on your glide path.' I'm a helicopter pilot. I don't do glide paths. We're just going to bring it in really hot and slam it down."

Sherrill came within striking distance of winning this district last year and she wants voters to keep the momentum going by getting Mullock into the CD-2 seat.

"We want to be making sure we are charting a path forward for working people and holding Trump accountable," said Sherrill. "We're going to flip the house and flip the senate."

And in 2028, she added, "We're going to get new leadership in the White House."

That last remark just about brought down the house.

And they were outside.
