Trump Gets Indicted – and New Jersey Reacts

Donald Trump

President Donald J. Trump often invokes his own interpretation of history as a way of amplifying his terminal sense of victimhood, as he did when he characterized himself as the worst treated president in U.S. history, apparently forgetting about men like Abe Lincoln, John F. Kennedy and others.

But this time, the perennial fact-challenged ex-whiner-in-chief finally scored an “A” on his history test. This time the “Apprentice” reality TV show star turned Oval Office inhabitant actually did make history, becoming the first former U.S. president to absorb criminal charges.

From USA Today: “A New York grand jury voted on Thursday to indict Donald Trump on unspecified criminal charges in a case that marks the first time a former president has been charged criminally, according to people familiar with the matter.

“Although the charges were not made public, the grand jury had been investigating hush money payments to two women who claimed to have had sex with him. The outline of those payments became public only after he was elected in 2016 and more details were revealed in sworn testimony as Trump served in the White House.”

Trump blamed the opposition party.

“Never before in our Nation’s history has this been done,” his reaction statement read in part.  “The Democrats have cheated countless times over the decades, including spying on my campaign, but weaponizing our justice system to punish a political opponent, who just so happens to be a President of the United States and by far the leading Republican candidate for President, has never happened before. Ever.

“Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who was hand-picked and funded by George Soros, is a disgrace. Rather than stop the unprecedented crime wave taking over New York City, he’s doing Joe Biden’s dirty work, ignoring the murders and burglaries and assaults he should be focused on. This is how Bragg spends his time!”

Adored by New Jersey politicians eager to attach themselves to his Atlantic City investments and later abhorred when he became toxic in the Oval Office, Trump on the legal block tonight stirred a bevy of reactions here. An unstately pleasure-dome decreed on the backs of New Jersey residents stiffed by tax break and tax debt forgiveness-granting New Jersey “statesmen,” the Trump Taj Mahal rose in 1990.

“The bedrock of our legal system is the principle that justice applies to everyone equally,” said

Booker

U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), who unsuccessfully pursued the 2020 Democratic nomination for president in 2020.

“No one is above the law,” added Booker. “This indictment isn’t a trivial matter. It means that a grand jury — an impartial group of citizens sworn by oath to perform their duties faithfully — has decided that there is enough evidence to charge former President Trump with committing a crime. And like every person charged with a serious crime, the former President has due process rights. He will have an opportunity to defend himself in a court of law before a jury of his peers.”

As news earlier this month about the coming indictment dribbled into the atmosphere and his

Christie

former political ally began a new series of all-caps victim rants via Twitter, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said, Trump “only profits and does well in chaos and turmoil. So he wants to create the chaos and turmoil on his terms.”

An unsuccessful candidate for president who succumbed to Trump in the 2016 GOP Primary, Christie was one of the first elected officials to try to legitimize Trump with an endorsement. Earlier in his career, he pioneered a strategic social media routine of throwing temper tantrums to draw attention to himself and create a springboard for higher office, a kind of calculated cretinism refined by Trump.

Ironically, Christie – appointed by Republican Governor George W. Bush – sharpened the office of U.S. Attorney during his pre-gubernatorial tenure to undertake prosecutions specifically politically advantageous to himself, according to his critics; precisely the kind of partisan weaponization of law enforcement that Trump says motivated his own indictment by New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whom Trump asserts wants to protect the incumbency of President Joe Biden.

Elected Manhattan district attorney in November 2021, Democrat Bragg is a former federal prosecutor in the New York attorney general’s office.

More from the Washington Post:

The Trump case spearheaded by Bragg is believed to involve a payment made before the 2016 presidential election to Stormy Daniels, an adult-film actress, to keep her from publicly discussing an affair she said she had with Trump years earlier.

Read more about the case here.

“Bragg inherited the Trump investigation from his predecessor, Cyrus Vance Jr. Two senior prosecutors quit his office last year, apparently in frustration that Bragg was not inclined to pursue an indictment of Trump over how he valued properties in his real estate business. Bragg has declined to discuss the investigation, saying only that, “We will continue to apply the law evenly and fairly.”

Comments poured in from elected officials in New Jersey, where Trump cut his gambling mecca credentials in the 1980’s by greasing the political skids of (mostly) Democratic Party politicians for sale.

“The reported indictment of Donald Trump is a somber moment for America,” said U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1). “We are a nation of laws and every citizen, including the former president, is entitled to a fair trial as provided by the Constitution. This news is not cause for celebration or condemnation. Instead, it’s a moment to have faith in the American judicial system and let the process play out in the courts.”

U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) issued the following statement on today’s indictment of former President Donald Trump:

“Today, an alleged criminal was charged with a crime. Like other alleged criminals, he will have his day in court and be given the opportunity to make his case. This is exactly how our justice system should work. In America, no one is above the law, not even former Presidents.

“Over the course of his administration, the former President proved time and time again that he

was unfit to serve the public in any public office or position of public trust, let alone the highest one in the country. We must not forget that his was a presidency defined by two impeachments, a disastrous response to a global pandemic, an economic collapse, and handouts to the rich at the expense of working families.

“From the beginning of his 2016 campaign, millions of Americans knew that the Mr. Trump lacked the competence, civility, and character necessary to lead and represent our nation on the world stage. Should he be found guilty of the crime he allegedly committed, it will only serve as further proof that he should never again set foot in the Oval Office.”

  1. An absolute disgrace, prosecutorial misconduct is evident, Bragg should be the one headed to jail. The US under the Biden administration is the laughing stock of the world. We’ve become a banana republic in 2 dreadful years!

  2. The first thing Bragg did when he entered office was to end the prosecution of trump over falsely inflating his business values. Two of his underlings resigned in protest, feeling that they had the evidence to prosecute and win in court.

I think Bragg is honest and following the law. Your comment is clearly unreasoned and partisan. And can you really say, with a straight face, that trump hasn’t committed many crimes?

  3. It’s sickening what the Democrat politicians will do to stay in power because their mission to turn this country into a dictatorship country. People are running to this country to get away from their country s of dictatorship. When it happens here and they control your every move where are you going to run to.? President Trump loves this country and is trying to bring the good things back. Mark my words if the democrats stay in power we all will live to regret it.

  4. About time!! Too bad even if convicted he probably won’t server any time. They should throw him in jail and loose the key.

  5. This is an atrosity. Trump is one of the best Presidents we ever had! Biden belongs in a nursing home and Hunter Biden belongs in prison. Biden drives a gas hog Corvette and wants the rest of us to drive tinker toys.

  6. This is an atrosity. Trump is one of the best Presidents we ever had! Biden belongs in a nursing home and Hunter Biden belongs in prison. Biden drives a gas hog Corvette and wants the rest of us to drive tinker toys.

  7. If there are federal issues in the case against Trump, why aren’t his attorneys filing a Petition for Removal of the state case to federal court under 28 U.S.C. §1441, 1446 et seq. Once the case is removed to federal court, the state automatically loses all jurisdiction over the case until the federal court remands it (highly doubtful where federal laws are implicated), or litigates it to the end.

  8. Bragg is honest???? BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! The guy came into office on one issue: GET TRUMP!!!!! Only 85,000 people voted for him in a city of 8,000,000. How is that even a winning vote??? Bragg is just another 3rd rate attorney who got his position by EEOC hiring. If we want to look at who are causing all the problems in this country, let’s see where the problem stems from:

Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, Rashida Tlaib, Ilana Pressley, Hakim Jeffries (Minority in House), Bernie Thompson (Head of Fraudulent J6 Committee), NY Rep. Jamaal Bowman, BLM (Burn, Loot & Murder), ANTIFA, New Black Panthers, Reparations committee in California, etc.

See the pattern: They’re all blacks against whites. It’s black discrimination against whites. All we have to do is to look at South Africa to see the outcome of blacks running the show there–massive unemployment, high inflation, incompetence in government, incompetence in industry. The black gov’t stole whites’ farms in South Africa and turned them over to blacks with no payment to whites. Now, the blacks can’t run the farms because they don’t know how. The farms fed the S.A. people. They are begging white farmers to come back and run the farms. The white farmers are saying “No”. This is what happens when you allow one race to run a well-run government.

  9. This is so disgusting. They have tried to get Trump on everything since the day he got in office. He was a great president. Our economy was thriving. Our borders were secure.World leaders respected him. They tried to hit Trump with every stone possible. To no avail. The democrats have committed so many crimes without any consequences. They are an evil hateful party. Let’s turn the tables on them ,get Justice for their crimes. Save our American tax payer dollars on these witch hunts for Trump.Get on with making America great again.

  10. They [Dems] have fallen into the Trump trap… their fate will be horrific.
They have tried from day one to remove Trump because Trump was trying to set us free from tyranny; high taxes, not enough income, no time for family and Trump was trying to change that!! God for bid we aren’t under government control….
We now have the idiots in charge to thank for our freedom- this “indictment” is the beginning of the end for the evils in charge…! Thank you President Trump…Hand well played!!

  11. The Stormy issue took place BEFORE Trump became President. Therefore it is no ones business!!! If you want it to be or trying to stick your nose in his business then Stormy should be indited too since it takes two and she is the prostitute who accepted the money. Also, Clinton and Lewinsky should be indited since their issue took place while HE WAS PRESIDENT. Whatever else you are doing I do not care since he was and hope to be again the BEST President ever!!

  12. All of you Trumptard defenders can go kick rocks. You boy has been charged with crimes. And they won’t be the last. He has to worry about staying out of prison for the rest of his life.

  13. In response to the [sealed] indictment I have two words…..Michael and Cohen. If The Trump Justice Department found sufficient grounds to indict, prosecute and JAIL Michael Cohen, naming his CO-Consipirator #1 [namely the then-President Trump], it was only prudent, proper and JUDICIOUS to indict the EX-president once he left office. The Goose and Gander were co-conspirators and, thus, both prosecutable and jailable. NO one is above the law. Ex-President Nixon would have served years in prison (as did All the President’s Men) had he not resigned and then been pardoned by his successor, Ford. Too bad he escaped accountability. IT might have set a more useful precedent.

  14. Christie; Norcross; Booker and the rest of these elected people in NJ all supported Trump. All roads lead to Atlantic City and Camden County.

Remember what you said Norcross. NO one is above the law. We know about you and your cyber espionage on
    America.

  16. Trump was the best president we ever had!! Our borders were secure , no high taxes! You people must like to pay a fortune for gas , food, and everything else! Biden should b in jail, and hunter too! Instead this country is a laughing stock. What’s wrong with some of u people? Whatever he may have done, he was a good president . I hope he gets back in again and shows those people who’s boss!!!

  17. I find it terrible that the headline says NJ reacts & the only reactions are from big names.

Why not ask The People what they think?

It’s only a matter of time before the truth can no longer be hidden & we all have to deal with the repercussions of our laziness.

  18. America was named after Amerigo Vespucci. He made his fortune drawing pictures of natives having sex. He was a pornographer. We’re named after a pornographer.

Its so weird that a porn star ends up being the one to save the country from a spineless liar Benedict Arnold and his cult of mindless followers.

Sorry Trump isn’t around to tell you people what to think anymore. I know it’s uncomfortable and hard and might hurt a little, but you MAGA terrorists are going to have to think for yourselves from now on.

Try not to shoot up any elementary schools or storm any government buildings in the meantime. Find a healthier way to process your rage about women and minorities treating criminals like criminals. Go hit the gym and improve yourself and think about fixing this broken country for once, instead of “owning the libs”.

You had a pretty good run. Too bad you were on the wrong side of history.

  19. @Traitor Trump – You are so MSM brainwashed, I hardly know where to begin. MAGA terrorists? 🤣 Seriously? Where was MAGA when the cities were burning, in the name of a career criminal who overdosed on Fentenyl? The “terrorist” resides in the White House, with his crackhead son, and the daughter he forced to take showers with him. Sickening! You have been told what to think by the likes of CNN. Just imagine being that gullible. I’ll bet you took all the jabs and boosters you could get into your body too, huh? There’s just no hope for those who have been given over to a reprobate mind.
