WHO’S UP and WHO’S DOWN: Bearing Down on Bull Run

WHO’S UP

Stonewall Jackson

Regardless of where you stand in the Gettysburg-like battle between Assemblyman Parker Space (R-24) and his Democratic Party detractors, the assemblyman now owns the best known and most talked about groundhog this side of the Mississippi.

Kim Guadagno

Go ahead and laugh. But as we recall, the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) didn’t do much for the Mount Everest-climbing Barbara Buono in 2013, while the Republican Governors Association (RGA) came in this week and dropped a bundle on the cause of the longshot, worst-weather-encumbered Republican running for Governor.

Gary La Spisa

The former Tony Bucco aide this week joined the government affairs team of the New Jersey Apartment Association (NJAA).

Janice Fuller

The Chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6) assumed the oath of office as a member of the Ocean Twp. School Board.

Keith Hahn

Now running as a Republican for mayor of Edison, the former local Democratic chair snagged the endorsement of the Edison Twp. Education Association.

WHO’S DOWN

The Old Bridge GOP

Council candidate John Murphy looked less than sure-footed this week after calling police with a complaint about getting punched in the chest by the diminutive Middlesex County GOP Chair Lucille Panos.

The Essex Legislation Delegation

Over the summer, the names of seven assembly people appeared on a list of Craig Coughlin backers, apparently putting the assemblyman from Middlesex over the top in his bid to oust Vinny Prieto as speaker of the general assembly. But at a Nanina’s fundraiser this week, four of those delegation members supposedly on record in support of Coughlin, showed up in apparent support of Prieto. Each man thinks those four back him not him. Paging Essex County Democratic Chairman Leroy Jones…

Jose “Joey” Torres

Due in court today, and with a plea deal on the table, it doesn’t look good for the Mayor of Paterson, charged earlier this year in what Attorney General Chris Porrino described as a “good old fashioned case of corruption.”

Donald Trump

Polling showed improvements this week, but specifically in terms of his New Jersey designs, the President wants another anti-Obamacare body in the upper chamber, and the stagnant pace of the Bob Menendez corruption trial makes it more likely that the GOP won’t install a Republican replacement for the sitting Democratic senior senator.

Michael O’Leary

The 35-year old Jersey City cop this week pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John Michael Vazquez in Newark federal court to an information charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.
