Booker, Warnock Applaud Passage of Resolution Celebrating Black History Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Raphael Warnock (D-GA) celebrated the Senate passage of a bipartisan resolution commemorating Black History Month and the important contributions made by Black Americans throughout United States history. The resolution was introduced by Senators Booker, Tim Scott (R-SC), and Warnock.

“Black history is American history. Generations of Black Americans throughout our country’s history have worked, struggled, and sacrificed to make our nation a more perfect union,” said Senator Booker. “Celebrating Black history means honoring the innumerable contributions Black Americans have made and continue to make, and recognizing the work left to do towards making this a country of liberty and justice for all. I applaud my Senate colleagues for swiftly passing this resolution to celebrate Black History Month.”

“Black history is American history,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “That’s why I am proud to see this resolution passed, reaffirming our commitment to celebrating Black History, and recognizing the deep love and intense struggles that shape both our history and our shared future.”

The resolution recognizes the enslavement of African Americans and the continuing racial injustices that still “remain evident in the society of the United States.” It underscores that this month provides “an opportunity to reflect on the complex history of the United States, while remaining hopeful and confident about the path ahead.”

The resolution also “acknowledges that all people of the United States are the recipients of the wealth of history provided by Black culture” and “encourages the celebration of Black History Month to provide a continuing opportunity for all people in the United States to learn from the past and understand the experiences that have shaped the United States.”
