NJ5 Candidate Arati Kreibich to Speak at 2019 IMPACT Summit

Arati Kreibich, a Glen Rock councilmember and a Democratic candidate for New Jersey’s 5th district House seat, will be a panelist at this year’s I AM IMPACT Summit. The summit, which will take place Thursday, Sept. 19 in Washington, D.C.,  is sponsored by the IMPACT Project, the nonpartisan arm of the Indian American IMPACT, a group that encourages Indian Americans to pursue public service.

Kreibich will take part in “Disrupt the Status Quo: Women Leading the Way,” a panel discussion for immigrant women and women of color running for office. Women of color represent 20 percent of the U.S. population, but hold just 4 percent of all elected offices.

“Our country is at its strongest when our leaders possess a diversity of perspectives and lived experiences. Yet, despite strides made in recent years, people of color and women still remain largely underrepresented in Congress,” Kreibich said. “With our democracy under unprecedented stress, it is critical for underrepresented voices to be heard and to speak truth to power, no matter how uncomfortable it may make Washington insiders and gatekeepers.”

Kreibich will discuss her experiences of moving from India to the United States at a young age and navigating life in school, science and, most recently, politics as an immigrant, a woman and a so-called model minority. Joining Kreibich on the panel will be candidates from across the country, including Senate candidate Usha Reddi, of Kansas, and House candidate Hiral Tipirneni, of Arizona. The panel will be moderated by Nisha Ramachandran of Desis for Progress.
